Episode 18: Men Are Not Meant to Be Sexy Woman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8ZVZRsy8N8&feature=player_embedded

Is it that woman are'nt interested in video games or is that there aren't games that appeal to them? go girls have a vendetta to games?

Why are women attracted to casual games (usual puzzle games)?

Do woman feel like gaming makes them unsocial and feel like they have no life?

Do special colors for consoles and controllers draw women in more or it just doesn't matter?

Are woman discouraged from games because of the way many video game heroine's are made "sexy" to appeal to men?

Do you feel game companies are specifically targeting men for their games?

Do consoles as the DS and Wii appeal more to women than the 360, PSP, and PS3?

Do think companies should stop making games for men and games for women and just make games for people?

RBN:
What exactly was your role in creating the Rock Band Network?
- QA Tester

With the opening of the new Rock Band Network, can you explain the process from how the tracks are created to how they get put on the Rock Band Store?
- Very simply, you get the master tracks to songs you own the rights to, you chart the songs out in a MIDI editor (Reaper), you package it all up and submit it to the creators.rockband.com site for others to give feedback, once you think it's ready, you can set it to be peer reviewed, once you pass peer review, it gets put up on the store. (Details taken from http://creators.rockband.com/)

Some sources say that bands will need a copy of "Reaper Digital Audio Workstation" which is around $225 while others say Harmonix will be providing the tools to create the music charts. Which one of these is correct?
- Stay tuned, more info will be out shortly.

It has been mentioned that only the most popular songs will be hang picked by the Harmonix Staff to be available for the Wii and PS3 copies of Rock Band. Do you think this will discourage bands from putting their music on because it might not be as readily access as they want?
- I don't see why it would, we've got quite a few users playing RB2 on their 360s. Also - wouldn't you think your band was good enough to get to be a popular song? :)

With iTunes giving 70% of the revenue to bands for bought songs, what will make bands want to put their content on the RBN while it only returns 30%?
- iTunes App Store gives 70% of their revenue to developers. From what I've heard, the Music Store has different profit margins for artists. I couldn't find any quick numbers online to support this, but check it out. Also, if I were a band, I'd want my songs up on RBN so I could help get my music out there. The music genre in games is yet another place to discover music, wouldn't you want your band to have a presence there?

How picky will the process of choosing songs to upload to RBN be? Is RBN going to have thousands and thousands of songs in no time, or are only the best of the best going to be allowed to sell in-store?
- The process will be 'picky' for all the right reasons. We want to keep a high quality of authored content coming in the store, but it won't be there to filter out specific genres, artists, etc. As for the amount of content on the store: we're ready to handle as much content as the authors out there are ready to throw at us. Get going!

Beatles:

What exactly was your role in creating The Beatles Rock Band?
- QA Tester, and I came in at the tail end of the project.

Has the game changed a lot since it was originally conceived? If so, how?
- Since I only joined towards the end of the project, I can't really discuss the growth of the game, as I didn't really experience it.

I know that originally the game was supposed to be its own game, called "The Beatles" or "The Beatles Game" or something like that. What made them finally decide to include it as part of the Rock Band series?
- Speaking for myself and not on behalf of Harmonix, it seems like it was a decision to continue brand-awareness for our series

Do you know when the full setlist will finally be revealed?
- At the very latest, 09.09.09 :)

How does the Wii version of the game look compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game? Was anything taken out of the Wii version to compensate for its lack of power compared with the other two consoles? Is there much (or any) slowdown in the Wii version of the game?
- Wii owners will be incredibly pleased with how the game looks on their console. Easily our best looking Wii title to date!

Any plans to release any songs from The Beatles' solo careers on DLC?
- I'm fairly certain the only DLC that's been announced thus far is the full Abbey Road album and the All You Need Is Love track.

Do you know how Harmonix was finally able to get the rights to the Beatles' catalog? I know that Activision was looking into it for some time; how did Harmonix eventually obtain them?
- I can't speak for Activision, but from my experience we have some amazing guys and girls working at our company.

Do you have a favorite Beatles song/album?
- I'm looking forward quite a few songs on the Abbey Road DLC. :)
